Guilty as charged. I personally find a great deal of wisdom and inspiration in books designed to help people live life to the fullest.
Some people choose exercise as a primary means of coping with stress, gaining perspective, and living in the "now." Substituting physical pain for emotional pain definitely has its own mood-altering effects. I certainly enjoy a little sweat as a stand-in for tears, and nothing beats the adrenaline rush of playing racquetball. Besides, endorphins do make you happy. In a society obsessed with image, physical exercise has a multitude of benefits. Pretty much, it's above reproach to say you're going to the gym.
But, try telling someone that you're gonna run by B & N to pick up a new self-help tome? Good luck with that. He or she will start laughing before the whole sentence escapes your lips.
Why is it so taboo to admit that you get a little pick-me-up from a self-proclaimed guru?
