So, I feel as if I may be coming across as though everything is negative. My posts have been sarcastic and caustic, but it's all in good fun. The thought that life in Maryland is unbearable couldn't be farther than the truth. Now, I do stand by everything I have previously said about driving and traffic, but I really like where I work and the people I have met here at Maryland.
Let me tell you a little about College Park Scholars... these folks are really terrific. Today, I was simply frustrated with everything - apartments, parking, buying expensive books, etc. - and I was able to come in to an office that is, at least for now, a bit of a haven. I won't call them each out by name, but every single colleague of mine was able and willing to give me a laugh, a word of advice, a bit of encouragement, or a listening ear. It was really great. When everything else seems to be in upheaval (um, you may remember I have a bit of an anxiety and adjustment issue), something stable and constant is needed.
In addition to people like my Scholars colleagues, I have an awesome cohort. I had lunch today at the Dairy on campus with some of these folks. I'm pretty excited about having classes and other experiences with them.
Alright, time to sign off, short though this update may be. It's been a long, emotionally exhausting day. Tomorrow I will participate in Scholars orientation - bright and early at 7am. Do the math... I'm leaving Baltimore at 6. Wish me luck!
