This is what being proud of your friends looks like!

I was telling my friend Julie today that Sacha has long been a great source of motivation for me. She's just so darn amazing. Year after year, she determines a new task for herself, usually of the athletic sort but not exclusively so, and pushes herself to prepare for and conquer it. Yet again, she set a goal for herself - this time to run an entire marathon in 4 hours, when she's never done a marathon before - and attained it. Yay!

I guess Sacha was surpised at herself for being so successful, even though none of the rest of us were... Here's a little of what she said about completing the run: "I did it! A year ago I was getting ready for my first duathlon and triathlon after a serious foot injury that had me out for a good six months. It is amazing how far one can come in only a year with hard work and dedication and, most of all, support from friends and family - even the ones who think I am crazy."

I may say it, but I don't actually think Sacha's crazy. I think she's driven. And, back when I lived in Columbia, the determined and disciplined Sacha was a daily role model for me. When things seemed tough or overwhelming she channeled that energy into a physical endeavor. And, I often followed suit (far, far behind), since she made it look worthwhile. I really do miss being her cheerleader and athletic supporter (tee hee!).

As I embark on this next semester, I think I'll look harder for that next great physical challenge. Seeing the pictures and hearing the stories from Sacha are inspiring. Suggestions are welcome!
And, congrats to Sacha and Douglas.
