Visitors from afar

It was both worth the wait and sacrificing my bed for a few days to be able to host Sacha and Douglas this past week. They came in late last Wednesday and began a surprisingly fruitful and painless search for an apartment. Ironically enough, they decided to lease an apartment that's a mere stone's throw from where Chris has lived for two years. I'm very excited for them, given that Douglas could potentially walk to work, there are lots of familiar chain retail stores around, the area is safe and friendly (well, friendly for the DC metro area, maybe not by Midwest standards), and the rent is reasonable (again, not compared to Mid-MO prices). Personally, it feels great to know where they'll be and how the area feels... a security I wish I could have felt when I moved, and thus I am happy that they can have.

After living in this area for 10 months, I found it fun to look at the area through the fresh eyes Douglas and Sacha brought with them. I could get excited about the neat parts of DC-living that I have adapted to and taken for granted. As well, I could see their skepticism or wariness of other things that I no longer even think about. Probably my favorite thing, though, was introducing Sacha and Douglas to Chris. A little over a month ago my sister Deanne visited me and met Chris, and I have a few old staffers (i.e. Christa, Jason, Danny) who've interacted with him - but I was very happy to have two of my favorite people meet. And, it was doubly exciting to hear Chris say he really liked my friends. Sort of like worlds colliding, in a good way :)

During the visit with Sacha and Douglas, we had some good meals, driving time, and sight-seeing. As is right in line with my persona, I was most pleased to be able to just sit for coffee on my couch with Sacha. That's the sort of stuff you cannot do comfortably with just anyone... a little perk of best friends, I suppose. While we didn't have any Extreme Makeover: Home Edition to watch and cry over (yet!), the little moments are what make me most happy that Sacha's moving closer to me again.

Just a few more weeks!
